Audio by Dr. Sruli Zyskind

Now, the following [labourers] may eat [of that upon which they are employed] according to scriptural law: He who is engaged upon that which is attached to the soil when its labour is finished, and upon that which is detached from the soil before its labour is completed, providing that it is something that grows from the earth. But the following may not eat: He who is engaged upon that which is attached to the soil before its labour is completed, upon that which is detached from the soil after its labour is completed, and upon that which does not grow from the soil.
If he [the labourer] works with his hands but not with his feet, or with his feet but not with his hands; [and] even if he works with his shoulders [only], he may eat. R. Jose son of R. Judah said: [He may not eat] unless he works with his hands and feet.
