Demai 2:5: Rabbi Meir says, “[In a case of] that which it is customary to measure in large amounts but was measured in small amounts, the small amounts are of secondary importance to the large amounts. [In a case of] that which it is customary to measure in small amounts, but was measured in large amounts, the large amount is of secondary importance to the small. Which is a large measurement? In dry [produce], three Kavin [specific unit of volume], and in wet [produce], a Dinar [specific unit of money].” Rabbi Yosi says, “Baskets of figs and baskets of grapes and a heap of greens, every time they are sold by approximation, they are exempt.”

רבי מאיר אומר את שדרכו להמדד בגסה ומדדו בדקה טפלה דקה לגסה. את שדרכו להמדד בדקה ומדד בגסה טפלה גסה לדקה. איזו היא מדה גסה ביבש שלשת קבין. ובלח דינר. ר' יוסי אומר סלי תאנים וסלי ענבים וקופות של ירק כל זמן שהוא מוכרן אכסרה פטור:

Demai 3:1: One may feed poor people Demai [produce from which it is uncertain if tithes were already taken], and the guest Demai. Rabban Gamliel would feed his employees Demai. Concerning charity collectors, the school of Shammai say that one gives tithed produce to those who do not tithe and untithed produce to those who do tithe: this way, everybody eats fixed [tithed] produce. The sages say, one simply takes and simply distributes, and he who wants to fix will fix.

מאכילין את העניים דמאי ואת האכסני' דמאי. רבן גמליאל היה מאכיל את פועליו דמאי גבאי צדקה. בית שמאי אומרים נותנין את המעושר לשאינו מעשר ואת שאינו מעושר למעשר נמצאו כל האדם אוכלין מתוקן. וחכמים אומרים גובין סתם ומחלקין סתם והרוצה לתקן יתקן:
