Shoulder-stones may be removed from any place, and they may be brought by a contractor from anywhere. These are shoulder-stones: such as cannot be held with one hand; so R. Meir. But R. Jose says: the name is to be taken literally, namely, such stones as can be carried on a man`s shoulder, either two or three at a time. |

| If one makes a fence between his own property and that belonging to the public domain, he is allowed to dig down to rock level. What should he do with the soil? He may pile it up in the public domain, and afterwards repair it. So R. Joshua. R. Akiba says: just as no damage may be done to a public domain, so may one not restore it to order. Then what should he do with the soil [dug up]? He Heaps it up in his own field in the manner of those who bring out dung [for manure]. It is likewise when one digs a well, a trench or a cave. |
