פרק ג משנה יג
יום טוב הראשון של חג  The first day of yom tov of Succos
שחל להיות בשבת which falls out on a shabbos,
כל העם מוליכין  all the people would bring
את לולביהן לבית הכנסת their lulav to shul [before shabbos],
למחרת משכימין ובאין got up early the next day and came [to shul],
כל אחד ואחד each person
מכיר את שלו ונוטלו would recoginize his own [lulav] and take it;
מפני שאמרו חכמים because the sages said
אין אדם יוצא ידי חובתו a person cannot fulfill his obligation
ביום טוב הראשון של חג on the first day of yom tov of Succos
בלולבו של חברו with the lulav of his colleague;
ושאר ימות החג but on the other days of Succos
אדם  יוצא ידי חובתו a person can fulfill his obligation
בלולבו של חברו with the lulav of his colleague.

פרק ג משנה יד
רבי יוסי אומר Rebbi Yosi said
יום טוב הראשון של חג the first day of yom tov of Succos
שחל להיות בשבת which falls out on a shabbos,
ושכח והוציא את הלולב and one forgot and took out his lulav
  לרשות הרבים to a public domain
פטור is not liable [for violating shabbos]
מפני שהוציאו ברשות because he took it out with permission.

NOTES

משנה יג

יו"ט ראשון של חג שחל להיות בשבת - Nowadays we do not take the lulav and esrog on shabbos, but originally it was done.

משנה יד

פטור - Rebbi Yosi e held that one engaged in a mitzvah who transgresses another אסור is פטור; this applies only if he had not done the mitzvah yet, and so it must be case where, for example, he carried the esrog upside down, or the lulav was in a container.
